Public Art Sculpture Created From Pony Beads
I Was Worried is a collaborative fiber-art installation by Amanda Micheletto-Blouin (@AmandaMicheletto-Blouin) and Briena Harmening (@brienaharmening) that transforms a familiar phrase into a luminous, communal gesture of care. The work features a five-by-seven-foot hand-stitched tapestry framed in metal and composed of 1000's of pony beads strung with fishing line. Pony beads were chosen for both their formal and cultural resonance.

Within the translucent field of clear beads, the words CALL ME WHEN YOU GET THERE were created using glow-in-the-dark, UV-sensitive pony beads. By day, the phrase is subtle; by night, it glows. Alongside the sculpture, a phone number invites viewers to participate. When dialed, a brief recording of Briena's father says, "I’m glad you called, I was worried" This gesture extends the work beyond its physical presence, creating an intimate exchange rooted in reassurance, memory, and connection. The phrase resonates universally, especially amid rising anxieties around public safety and displacement. Through delicate craft, repetition, and light, the artists create a visual and emotional beacon—a space of tenderness and urgency where viewers are reminded of the instinctive desire to check in, care for, and protect one another.
