When choosing beads for your project, think about bead sizes and hole sizes too. The hole size will determine what type of elastic or string you can use for your beading project. It is perfectly fine to mix beads with different hole sizes, but use the smallest size hole to choose your stringing material.
About Bead Sizes
Beads can be as small as 2mm and as large as up to 40mm or larger. Here is a general guidelines on which sizes work best for jewelry and beading projects.
- for Bracelet making use 2-8mm beads (our 6x9mm Pony Beads are popular for making friendship bracelets)
- for Necklaces, use 2-6mm beads and add in larger beads as accents (large beads can make the necklace too heavy)
- for Key Chains, 6-14mm beads will create a beautiful design and be easy to grab. Using beads with large holes that will fit on thick and sturdy cords.
